Volume conversion method

Volume units are converted through cubic metres. ToolLott multiplies by the source-unit cubic-metre factor and divides by the factor for litres, millilitres, cubic inches/feet or US/UK gallons.

Normalise to base unit

Limitations

  • Container usable capacity can differ from nominal geometric volume.
  • This does not convert mass to volume because that requires density.

Common questions

Why does the Volume Converter use a base unit internally?

Normalising the source value to one reference unit makes every supported source-to-target combination use one consistent calculation path.

Does conversion change the physical quantity?

No. It expresses the same quantity in a different unit.

Why can the displayed value contain many decimals?

Some unit ratios are not terminating decimals. ToolLott calculates with browser numeric precision and rounds only for display.
