Digital speed is normalised to bit/s. Decimal network prefixes use powers of 1000, and byte-per-second units include the 8 bits per byte relationship before the value is converted to the target.

Limitations
- Actual download speed is usually lower because of protocol overhead, latency, server limits and storage performance.
- This does not convert between decimal and binary storage quantities such as GiB.
Common questions
Why does the Digital Speed Converter use a base unit internally?
Normalising the source value to one reference unit makes every supported source-to-target combination use one consistent calculation path.
Does conversion change the physical quantity?
No. It expresses the same quantity in a different unit.
Why can the displayed value contain many decimals?
Some unit ratios are not terminating decimals. ToolLott calculates with browser numeric precision and rounds only for display.
